Marisol Pérez, MSW, LCSW
Marisol is the owner of Peaceful Counseling and Therapy. She is a Latinx bilingual (English/Spanish) and bicultural Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Marisol creates a collaborative, warm, and non-judgmental environment where clients feel empowered with tools and at peace with their story. She believes that it is an honor and privilege to join her clients through their healing process. Marisol uses a person-centered and strengths-based approach while helping you navigate through your experiences and feelings. She specializes in helping survivors of trauma and those with chronic illness. Marisol has a special interest in helping clients with medical-related traumas and/or chronic illness-induced trauma. Marisol’s story of resilience in overcoming her adversities and living with multiple chronic illnesses are the driving forces behind her work. She has a passion for destigmatizing mental health, chronic illness, trauma, and disabilities. Marisol practices cultural humility and is committed to inclusivity, anti-racism, and is LGBTQIA+ affirming.
Marisol is a New York City native and relocated to North Carolina in 2017. She earned her Master of Social Work degree from New York University, where she concentrated in integrated health care and evidenced-based modalities. Marisol graduated cum laude from the City University of New York, Herbert H. Lehman College where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. She has experience providing services in various settings including community outpatient agencies, primary care settings, and private practice. During her spare time, Marisol enjoys practicing mindfulness, playing her singing bowls, creating floral arrangements, and spending time with her husband, daughter Moon, and 3 dogs (Píto, Snoopy, and Bear). Snoopy, seen in the photo, is Peaceful Counseling and Therapy’s virtual therapy dog.

Trauma
There are several experiences that may cause trauma in a person’s life. Those experiences may impact the person’s quality of life, how they interact with others, and their mental wellness. Marisol specializes in helping people who have gone through several stressful or traumatic experiences throughout their life. Some of those experiences may include: childhood trauma, family trauma, narcissistic trauma, religious trauma, traumatic loss, sexual assault, interpersonal violence, medical trauma, racial trauma, work-related trauma, etc. Marisol understands that everyone’s healing journey is unique and she will provide a peaceful space to join you on your journey.
Illness
It’s hard living with illness whether it’s short-term, chronic, and/or painful. Many times, having illness may impact your quality of life and/or your relationships. Therapy can be an anchor in a sea of change. Being a thriver of illness, Marisol has first-hand knowledge on coping with illness. She specializes in helping people with short/long term medical conditions, invisible illness, chronic pain, medical trauma, and caregiver support. Marisol knows that your illness does not define you and she will guide your path towards being at peace with your story.
Techniques:
No experience for each of Marisol’s clients is the same. Marisol’s style is holistic, trauma-informed, and client centered. The therapeutic experience is tailored to your needs. She incorporates a variety of modalities and holistic healing tools depending on your goals. Marisol integrates techniques from Brainspotting, EMDR, Sensorimotor psychotherapy, CBT, expressive therapies, mindfulness-based therapies, sound healing, tarot, reiki, shadow healing, and color healing.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR):
EMDR is a helpful therapeutic tool that through bilateral stimulation, allows the brain to heal from previous distressing experiences. EMDR has been shown to help with a variety of challenges including but not limited to: anxiety, chronic illness, chronic pain, trauma, depression, and more. EMDR can be integrated in a fluid way throughout your therapeutic process. Marisol is fully trained in EMDR having completed her EMDR level I, level II, and consultations by an approved EMDRIA trainer.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP):
“SP is a complete treatment modality to heal trauma and attachment issues. SP welcomes the body as an integral source of information for processing past experiences relating to upsetting or traumatic events and developmental wounds. SP incorporates the physical and sensory experience, as well as thoughts and emotions, as part of the person’s complete experience of both the trauma itself and the process of healing. SP seeks to restore a person’s ability to process information without being triggered by past experience.” - Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute. Marisol completed her Sensorimotor Psychotherapy level 1 training.
Brainspotting (BSP):
Marisol is a Brainspotting Consultant, Certified Brainspotting Practitioner as well as a Brainspotting training facilitator. Brainspotting is a neuro-experiential, relational, brain-body, mindfulness based therapy. It’s a way of healing the brain and body by accessing the subcortical areas of the brain. Brainspotting can help process trauma, improve emotions, reduce pain, and more. If you choose, Marisol can incorporate Brainspotting to your therapeutic experience. She collaborates closely with her clients while using a holistic approach to their treatment. Marisol has completed BSP Phase 1, BSP Phase 2, BPS Phase 3, Brainspotting and Reiki, and BSP Clearing Limbic Countertransference: Enhancing Attunement trainings.
Marisol is trained in Brainspotting Levels 1, 2, 3, & Master Class by Dr. David Grand, developer and founder of Brainspotting.
